This performance camp is designed to assemble talented athletes in the Bay of Plenty and wider regions to be exposed to professional coaches, off court teachings and themes appropriate to players pursuing post-high school basketball goals, replicate a high performance camp environment (e.g. NZ National Team Camps) as well as evaluate and provide feedback to athletes. Led by Matt Lacey & Alex Stojkovic, all players will gain valuable insights into the Whai style of play as well as international basketball trends.

Whai Academy 2025 Trial Information
Whai Academy is the premier pre-performance and performance programme in the Whai Basketball development pathway. Designed for players in Years 11-13 and post graduates, our 2025 programme will support athletes and families in their development journey and goals on and off the court. The programme focuses on teaching decision making, developing player IQ and advanced offensive and defensive schemes that are aligned with Whai NBL & Tauihi teams as well as the NZ National Teams. Head along to our Academy Trials in November for your shot at the 2025 programme.
Girls Trial #1 - Sunday 17th November, Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre, 9am-11am
Boys Trail #1 – Sunday 17th November, Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre Memorial, 11am-3pm
You will be placed into the 11am or 1pm session – info to come via email after registering
Girls Trial #2 – Wednesday 20th November, Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre Memorial, 5:30-7:30pm
Boys Trial #2 – Saturday 23rd November, Mercury Arena, 9-11am
Who Should Trial for Whai Academy 2025
Players in Years 11-13 in 2025, plus those in their first year out of school
Players in competitive school teams, representative teams or regional/national representative teams
WHAI ACADEMY TAURANGA
At Whai Academy, dedication is key. If selected during our trials, we ask that you commit to the whole year. Whai Academy begins in Term 4 after trials and concludes after HoopNation the following year. This year-long commitment ensures a transformative basketball experience.

U17 - Players born in 2007 & 2008
U19 - Players born in 2005 & 2006
Open - Players born in 2004 or older
PURPOSE
The Whai Academy is designed to help players reach their potential and to create pathways in basketball.
The Academy will complement representative and school commitments. We will avoid clashing with any other basketball commitments where possible.
The goal is to create genuine pathways for players into our National league teams or other avenues such as college scholarships.
The Academy is aimed at high level representative players who are serious about improving their game.
