Due to demand Whai will be running 3 Academy Programmes!
1️⃣ Whai Performance Academy: Is an elite player development system that provides the skills, connections, and opportunities to reach your full potential. The Whai Performance Academy is one of the main pathways into the Whai NBL & Tauihi teams. The Whai Performance Academy will run in both Tauranga and Rotorua in 2025.
2️⃣ Whai Advanced Academy: Is for Years 11 to 13 and post-graduates. This Programme is specifically designed to provide an extremely high-quality training experience. Players will be coached by the same coaching team who deliver our Performance Academy and will attend consistent weekly training sessions throughout the year. The Advanced Academy will be one of the main pathways into the Whai Performance Academy.
3️⃣ Who's Got Next Academy: Is for players aged from 12 to 15 years. Designed as the entry point to our player pathway and will focus on teaching basketball fundamentals, introductory offensive & defensive concepts with a big focus on decision making.
Whai Performance Academy Rotorua Trials 2025
Programme Information
The Whai Performance Academy Rotorua is led by Whai NBL Assistant Coach Doug Courtney.
In Term 1 there will be two weekly trainings in Rotorua, plus 3 scrimmages in Tauranga. The Tauranga scrimmages are combined with the Tauranga cohort. This will give players the ability to train with and get exposed to other players and coaches several times during the term.
Trainings will be held Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 6:30-8:00am at Toi-Ohomai, Rotorua.
Scrimmages will be on Wednesdays (Girls) and Thursdays (Boys) from 4-5:30pm at Whai HQ, 105 Birch Ave, Tauranga.
In Term 2 & 3 the Performance Academy will train once per week during the busy representative and school season.
In Term 4 we will return to two weekly trainings and scrimmages.
The Whai Performance Academy will also select teams for HoopNation in October as well as provide other playing opportunities through out the year.
The cost for Term 1 for the Rotorua Academy is $290

Players born in 2007 & 2008
Players born in 2005 & 2006
Open - Players born in 2004 or older
PURPOSE
The Whai Academy is designed to help players reach their potential and to create pathways in basketball.
The Academy will complement representative and school commitments. We will avoid clashing with any other basketball commitments where possible.
The goal is to create genuine pathways for players into our National league teams or other avenues such as college scholarships.
The Academy is aimed at high level representative players who are serious about improving their game.
